Now it may surprise you to hear that while I enjoy and pride myself on capturing authentic non-staged moments, I’m not really all that stealthy. I usually rely on a long lens and enough guests in the vicinity or even a tree to disguise my presence. When I received an inquiry for a surprise proposal, I was game, and then I realized I’d have to figure out how not to be seen in a relatively empty space where taking photos of would-be strangers would certainly draw attention to myself. Fortunately, I posed as a tourist and was able to catch this unforgettable moment without getting caught in the act. Big thanks to the staff at the de Young Museum for playing it cool!
